Down and out

I think something wrong with my dinner last nite, about 1-2 hours after I had my dinner, suddenly my stomach felt bloated, whole body felt like I'm going sick soon. I guess sore throat and cold for the past two days have already given me the early sign. Fortunately it was quite late last night when I felt it, so I just went to bed.

Woke up this morning, felt better, but still not as good as I wished for, so I stayed at home today and worked from home. It won't be effective, but I can still connect to my machine at office, I still have a phone so I can still join meetings from home, so all is not too bad. Yeah, I know, I should get more rest, promise I willsmile_angel

Microsoft Project *sigh*

I thought it'll be fun to work using Microsoft Project. It's not. I repeat, it's not. It's so confusing seeing all those numbers, names, tasks, lines, percentages, dates, all cluttered in one big interface. Even my two 19" monitors can't fit the display in.

If you thought managing numbers in Excel is hard, try managing project in Microsoft Project. It's madness. smile_angry Anyway, as the going says (or is it saying goes?), what can't kill you will only make you strong. Soon, I'll be expert in Microsoft Project hehe...smile_shades

Chinese New Year - East Coast, Chinatown, JB

Since we didn't managed to visit Sentosa, we went to East Coast instead, and still have lots of fun.

My niece is certainly having a great fun

She's not afraid of water nor the waves that came crashing through her legs. She even dragged us deeper into the water, but the rest of us who went there unprepared with any pants to change refused to go deeper, *maybe* next time. Of course, we need to be wary of her safety too.

After having some fun in East Coast, on our way back to Boonlay, we stopped by Chinatown to see if there are any happenings. Sadly, only these decorations greeted us along an empty road.

Of course that won't deter yours truly to pose for some pics.

Most of the shops there are open, not many stalls are even open for dinner.

The next day was spent in Johor Bahru. For once, I knew that, since late Jan 2008, we are no longer required to fill in embarkation card to enter Malaysia, so cool, save one more paper to fill up every time I go to Malaysia.

City Square shopping mall are quite empty too, with some decoration with money and rats in it (expected).

Good Fortune, Prosperity, Longevity, those material things that every one wants, hope, and wishes for all the time.

PS: Today is Valentine's day. Hope everyone enjoyed a great day. Did you?

Happy Chinese New Year and Happy Birthday (to me)

It's a *bit* belated post. We all in Singapore, any many other countries, get two days of public holiday from last Thursday, so we effectively had four days of long break. As with all my break and weekends, I had a busy, fully packed days. These four days were no exception. My big and extended family members reached Singapore on Wednesday evening, and we had a reunion dinner at my sister's place that night.

The first day of Chinese New Year on Thursday happened to be my birthday, or my birthday happen to be a public holiday, or .... you know .... It's the first time that the government gave a public holiday to celebrate my birthday and my company gave me a half-day off the previous day. I'm truly honoured hehe... smile_tongue Anyway, I brought my whole big family to Esplanade, then we saw this gigantic plastic decoration opposite Esplanade.

Not sure what god this one depicts?

They have this Hua Yi Festival in Esplanade

The Friday was planned to visit Sentosa Flowers 2008 at Sentosa of course. To our horror upon reaching Vivo City, the queue for Sentosa Express train ticket was unbelievably long. From the ticket counter just beside Food Republic, people are making snake-like queue in the building, that extends all the way to outside of the building. My guess-timate of the queue will probably 400 persons. Even though the queue moved quite "fast", we cancelled the idea of visiting Sentosa that day as we're sure it'll be *very* crowded there. Even we can somehow managed to reach Sentosa, we're not sure how we can easily come back to the main land in the afternoon or evening.

The queue outside continues all the way to this ...

That plan was quickly changed to East Coast instead. No flowers there, but still lots of fun. Before that, we need to recharge. Out of those few restaurants that are open that day, we settled for The Chicken Rice Shop. It's surprisingly good, and don't let the name fool you, they sell much more than just chicken rice. Six of us ordered $56 family feast meal that gives you half-chicken, one big plate of bean-sprout, one big bowl of fishballs, one plate of kai-lan vegetables, one jug of Pepsi, one plate of Japanese tofu, one big bowl of nata-de-coco, one-quarter of honey BBQ chicken, and few more menus that I can't remember right now. A certain value for money I feel.

Before we headed to East Coast, we went around Vivo City, and saw this great painter, presumably from China.

Before coloring

And after coloring ...

This man here draw the lines on the painting using hot metal to burn the paper, creating black colour lines on the paper, very impressive.

To be continued ...

Microsoft Proposes to buy Yahoo!

What do you do if you have $44.6 billion in cash and stock? Buy Yahoo!. *gosh* how many zeros are there?

I'm sure this is a move to rival the increasing dominance of Google in the Internet space. What will happen to Yahoo! Mail, Flickr, Yahoo Groups after Microsoft has bought Yahoo!? *wondering*

Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) today announced that it has made a proposal to the Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) Board of Directors to acquire all the outstanding shares of Yahoo! common stock for per share consideration of $31 representing a total equity value of approximately $44.6 billion...... Today, the market is increasingly dominated by one player who is consolidating its dominance through acquisition.

Read Microsoft PressPass announcement of this proposal to buy Yahoo!

What do you think about it? Is it for the better that instead of Google vs Microsoft vs Yahoo! now, it'll soon be Google vs Microsoft + Yahoo!?
