Busy mode

So many to do, so little time .... sounds like the complain of every single human being, especially in this Singapore island-state, right? I actually got quite a couple of things to update, but the moment I finished all my tasks at home, it's already 11.59 PM when I can update my blog, I'm sleepy, can only update this small post. Good nite everyone.

Which one is more painful?

Sorry this post is in Indonesian. I'll try to translate when I have the chance to

Seperti sadis, tapi at least ayam-nya langsung mati, dan ga kesakitan.

We all know, soon or later, ayamnya toh mesti mati juga, karena emang udah ga boleh hidup lama2.

The morale of the story, Alan dan Susi sama2 sayang ama ayamnya masing2, tapi ketika mereka mesti ngelakuin sesuatu yang bikin sakit hati mereka dan bikin sakit ayamnya, buat ayamnya, enakan mana seh ya, seperti sadis langsung dibacok atau pake acara ga tega2an, disayat pelan2, potong sambung potong sambung?

Shrug it off

it's just one of those days when i feel very very low, gets irritated and disappointed easily, probably rather stressed out, a time when i need someone to cheer me up, when my mind wander around to galaxy far far away, being unreasonable, crazy, cranky. however, besides all these, I still see a many things that are positive, things that made me know that a hope is still alive, somewhere, somehow. Argh, never mind, it's just one of those days, shrug it off. super melo mode now. dun worry about me, i'll be alright in a few days, after all, i am a super positive happy go lucky guy, it's just all these happen to remind me that i'm still a human after all.

On a separate topic, when I was queuing for my dinner just now, two ladies in front of me ordered for probably their whole big family, I was standing there waiting and waiting for sooooo long. Well, they did apologize, which I found very nice of them, not that I blame them at all, it's just that I was the unlucky one.
Anyway, as I was standing there, I watched this drama series in channel 8, titled "Love at 0°C".

The scene was in Changi airport, a guy walked in the departure lounge already, and a girl just reached the airport to find him. She looked for him to no avail, and then she went to the announcement area, borrowed a microphone and talked for the guy via the broadcast system.
It goes something like: "<<that guy name>>, you're the world's greatest fool, you've done so much for me without me knowing it. I thought I didn't love you as much you love me, that's why I didn't dare to accept your love, but without me knowing it, I couldn't bear to see you leave. After so long, I realized that I really need you. If I let you go now, I would be the world's greatest fool" (of course complete with tears hehe....)

Well, finally they met each other and the girl continued: "Thank you for not giving up on me all these time." The guy said: "Honestly, I couldn't bear to leave too, it's just that I must be willing to let you go if you prefer to be with someone else." The "standard" love, romantic scene continues ...

What am I telling this for? Don't know, but yeah, the whole scene was probably like ten minutes I was queuing for my turn-out-not-so-good duck noodle. *haiyah*. Morale of the story, we often take what we have, including people who love us, for granted. It's only when that person is going to leave us, then we suddenly feel how important that person is in our life, with or without us knowing it. So, appreciate, cherish and treasure the people around us that we have now. We never know when they'll leave. Arh ... now back to real life ...

Weekend

I don't know, can my weekend get any worse than this? This could simply be the worst weekend I've ever had in my life for the past five years. I blew up my friend's computer, I lost my cool, I was upset, I was angry, I couldn't praise God in church, I couldn't pray, I've not been a blessing to others who saw me today, a curse is a better word I think, and I almost blew up myself too. Of course, there are much more happened that I couldn't share with the world. In short, it's the weekend where everything that could go wrong, did went wrong.

Anyway, someone said, when you think things could not get worse, they do.
Another person said, when you think things could not get worse, that's when God starts His work. I'm determined to fight on, I will not give up, no matter what, until I have what I want, to fulfill God's plan for us.

love is ...

i said, love is to let someone go to be happy with someone else.
but, someone else told me, love is to let someone go and let God reveal His plan for their life, letting them discover themselves who God really intended for them.

what do you say love is?

Fireworks

For some stupid reason, I purposely left my camera at home this morning. As the result, I was planning to leave office early today, 6 pm, to go back home to get my camera, and hopefully reached City Hall to meet Angki and friends for dinner at 7 pm. For some reason, critical problem aroused at around 5 pm (it seems to always happen near end of day hehe ...) so my team and I tried to fix the problem. Fortunately, all issues were fixed by 6.15 pm.

I left office at 6.30 pm, reached home 7.05 pm, charged my phone that was left with one red bar (which means about 10% left but somehow my phone didn't seem to charge), get changed, no indication of my phone charging, never mind, had to leave already, left the house at 7.15 pm, went down to bus stop, luckily bus 105 immediately came, so I hopped on and reached Clementi MRT at 7.25 pm. I reached City Hall at 7.55 pm, called Angki, apparently they are almost done with their dinner at Magic Wok, so I headed to Raffles City basement to find any fast food outlet. I went to Burger King, and the queue was *gasp*!!!!!! I looked out, Subway, Mos Burger, same long queues, so I queued. I came out with my yummy Mushroom Swiss Burger at 8.15 pm. I tried to call Angki to ask where they were, but mistakenly called another person instead

Fireworks

We walked towards Padang, while I was chewing my burger on the way, when Esther called me. She was in Esplanade already, so I headed down to Esplanade instead of staying in Padang. I reached Esplanade around 8.40 pm and again the crowd was unbelievable. I managed to reach Andersen Bridge at Esplanade, while she was already in One Fullerton at the other end of the bridge. It was human jam that I couldn't possibly walked across the bridge. No phone call and SMS could get through easily. I tried to call her but all I got was network busy, user busy, or the call simply get disconnected. SMS also had the same problem, message failed to be sent out. I tried and tried, but I think Starhub network there was super duper busy. In the end, I stayed there, tried to find the best possible view and angle, and the photo above is the best I could get. Later on, we met in Fullerton Hotel and I saw the video that Esther took, the view from her side was totally unblocked!!!! So nice, while my view was more like firetrees rather than fireworks....

Reached home around 10 pm, busy SMS-ing with my mom and now blogging away. Tried to charge my phone but somehow it seemed like my phone is not charging at all. Around 11 pm, I noticed that the battery bar has increased to orange-red. I was puzzled, no indication of battery charging, but it seemed like the battery juice actually went up. So, thanks to a tip from INK, I restarted my phone and true, my phone charging indicator came back again. Apparently, it was charging ever since I reached home first time, but simply no indication of battery charging led me to think that it was not charging. Haiyah, some phone software issue I think. Now let me try to get some sleep, so I can wake up at 7 AM tomorrow morning

Update: Eric and Esther have updated their blog too with their experiences viewing fireworks.

i need strength (and prayer)

It's stress after stress, pressure after pressure, mistakes after mistakes, nightmare after nightmare, stupidity after stupidity, faults after faults, restless after restless. what has happened to me??!!! I need You ...

Why, O LORD, do you make us wander from your ways and harden our hearts so we do not revere you? Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes that are your inheritance. You come to the help of those who gladly do right, who remember your ways. But when we continued to sin against them, you were angry. How then can we be saved? Do not be angry beyond measure, O LORD; do not remember our sins forever. Oh, look upon us, we pray, for we are all your people. (Isaiah 63:17, 64:5, 9)

Fireworks #2 and Nathan's farewell

Not content with my firetrees on Tuesday, I planned to go back again, this time found a perfect spot that was totally unblocked. My roommate and a group of friends initially invited me for buffet dinner in Sakae Sushi just opposite my office. Angki, on the other hand, invited me for Nathanael's farewell dinner at Makan Sutra besides Esplanade. After pondering, thinking, and deciding, I decided to head to Makan Sutra with the hope of having bigger chance of catching the fireworks.

Makan Sutra was super crowded, clearly benefited from the fireworks show. The whole ordering took almost an hour, from satay to prawn noodle, stingray, oyster omellete, chili morning glory. Only around 8 pm we could start our dinner. I finished my dinner around 8.30 pm, and proceeded to the area towards Sheares Bridge to find a open space to catch the fireworks. I met Yoan and her husband, Yohanes in Makan Sutra, and it was them who suggested going to the open space near to Sheares Bridge, because it won't be too crowded there. Here are some photos and videos I took. Click for the larger picture.

After the fireworks has ended, I went back to Makan Sutra, surprised that my group of friends are still there, listening to Nathan sharing his life before his departure for study somewhere near Chicago on Sunday. Wish you all the best there man!!! And as what Ko Effendy said, surround yourself with a good group of friends, because you can be more or less affected by the friends you keep and go out with. God bless

Monday really blues

i was okay in church last night, nothing unusual. Then, I went to Crystal Jade La Mian in Holland Village for dinner. Not sure what happened there, but I feel rather unwell after the dinner. I felt like vomiting after the dinner, but I held on going back home. I reached home, threw myself in my sofa, watched Liverpool beat Chelsea by 2-1 (yeee haaaa....!!!), felt like I've lost all my energy. So tired and "sick" that immediately after the match, I went to bed, yeah, all without brushing my teeth. I was that tired.

Anyway, woke up 7 am in the morning, long before my alarm rang. I have already woken up at least three times during the night, feeling well ... sick .... and as it has happened during the past few days, I woke up before my alarm rang. It doesn't happen very often haha.... I woke up, admittedly vomited when I was brushing my teeth, my stomach super bloated, and I could tell that I should take MC today. I was just that tired and sick. However, if not for the need of me to go to Embassy this morning, and a 3.5 hours important meeting in the morning, I would have taken whole day MC. As it turned out, I forced myself to go to Embassy, then managed to reach office by 9.30, just in time for my meeting. I was kinda struggling during the meeting, trying to look as good as I can although I was rather feverish and headache, still talk as much as I usually do hahaha.... but after the meeting ended at 1 pm, I decided I couldn't continue the day in office already. I went back, headed to a clinic in Clementi, bought my lunch, reached home almost 3 pm, then slept from 4 pm all the way until 9 pm when someone SMS-ed me. Thankfully for the SMS, I woke up, or else I would have slept all the way until tomorrow morning, skipping my dinner. Thanks. You know who you are who SMS-ed me at 9 pm. Glad you did.

So, here I am, after my dinner, still feel bloated, headache, feel like vomitting, *haiyah*. What a way to start the week. No, I can't be pregnant hahaha....

The Name Game

Without looking up Google, MSN Search, Yahoo, Wikipedia, Dictionary, Encyclopedia, Encarta, etc. guess what the following sentence means?

"My Very Educated Mother Just Showed Us Nine Planets"

Hint, the answer is also in English.

Spend more time with the ones you love

I was watching don't-know-which episode of Smallville in Channel 5, and I would like to share the last scene of the show where Jonathan Kent told Clark Kent: "None of us will stay here forever, so live your life to the fullest and try to spend more of your time with the ones you love."

On a similar topic, Vero posted quite a funny article about soulmate (in Indo).
Some funny ones says: "If you are destined for a Mercedes, why cry for a rickshaw passing by?". I was thinking: "If you are destined for a Mercedes, should you cry for a Ferrari passing by?" And the last part says the person in the story was not made like a girl who is perfect and can't make mistake. She's like any other person who can be naive, who can fall down in mistakes, but who also can stop all her mistakes and do what is right.

GRIIS Sentosa Fun Outing

This is one overdue blog post that I have been wanting to post since last week, but have been unable to find enough time to type this lengthy article. Anyway, this is one event that was held during National Day by GRIIS youth and young adults fellowship where we invited new fresh Indonesian students who are just enrolled into various universities and polytechnics in Singapore for half-day worth of games, activities, networking, etc. We, the seniors, all gathered in Harbourfront MRT by 8.15 AM, that means I woke up so much earlier than I usually do during weekdays for work haha… We took Sentosa bus, followed by Blue Line bus, to gather somewhere near Merlion.

Volleyball in front of MerlionDoan started the day by briefing everyone, followed by a skit to start our mission to find the hidden "treasure" by going from one post to another. There were a total of four game stations spread around the island (of course still within walking distance). Unfortunately, my team was handed the wrong map (sabo-ed? ) and thus we went so far in the wrong direction, and not until the first station game master called us to check where we are, then we realized that we have been walking in the wrong direction. As the result, from one station to another, virtually every single station game master would called us because it took so long for our team to arrive. Of course, we were lost when other teams were playing at the first station. We were still in the first station when other teams are already in the second station, so on and so on.

My team consists of five persons, Owen from SMU, Daniel, Guntur, myself, and Jenny of SIM. It was a very fun-filled day when everyone enjoyed the moments we played games, meet new friends, and of course listen to God’s Word along the way. We finished the game around noon time, and we all went to beach area where we all cooled down, had our lunch, and presented gifts to those who won the game (which obviously cannot be my team ) Some went back home after that, while some still stayed on to enjoy the beach, played volleyballs, etc. Here are some of the photos we took during the day.

Some poems...

Poems by not so famous poets... found on toilet doors and walls.........

1/ A budding poet trying his best...
Here I lie in stinky vapor,
Because some bastard stole the toilet paper, Shall I lie, or shall I
linger, Or shall I be forced to use my finger.

2/ Before he graduated to be a poet, he wrote this...
Here I sit
Broken hearted
Tried to shit
But only farted

3/ Someone who had a different experience wrote,
You're lucky
You had your chance
I tried to fart,
And shit my pants!

4/ Perhaps it's true that people find inspiration in toilets.
I came here
To shit and stink,
But all I do
Is sit and think.

5/ There are also people who come in for a different purpose...
Some come here to sit and think,
Some come here to shit and stink,
But I come here to scratch my balls,
And read the bullshit on the walls...

6/ Toilet walls also double as job advertisement space....... (written
high upon the wall)
If you can piss above this line, the Singapore Fire Department wants
you.

7/ Ministry of Environment advertisement.
We aim to please!
You aim too! Please

8/ On the inside of a toilet door:
Patrons are requested to remain seated throughout the entire
performance.

9/ And finally, this should teach some a lesson...
Sign seen at a restaurant:
The hands that clean these toilets also make your food...please aim
properly.

Bye bye Pluto

PRAGUE - Scientists from around the world on Thursday approved a new definition of a planet, downgrading Pluto's status to leave just eight classical planets.

After a heated debate, 2,500 scientists and astronomers voted at the International Astronomers Union General Assembly that Pluto, which has been called a planet since being discovered in 1930, would be put into a category of planets called "dwarf planets"

So so so, now we are left with only: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Time to update every single textbox on the planet hehe...

Read more about Scientist decide Pluto's no longer a planet.

Windows Vista pre-RC1

Microsoft released Windows Vista pre-RC1 (build 5536) last weekend and I have gotten it up and running in both my home PC and my laptop. I have been starting to use it as my full time Windows PC. In fact, I have been using Windows Vista whole day in office to do my work. As far as all the application that I need can work in Windows Vista, I can do my job already The main list are not extensive, I only need a browser (IE7 so far suffices), Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and OneNote (all part of Office 2007 Beta 2), Visual Sourcesafe (for document control), some utilities like Daemon Tools, Adobe Reader, and Winzip, and finally a music player (Windows Media Player 11). See, I'm a simple guy when it comes to do my work :p

Desktop

So, how is Windows Vista you would ask? It's pretty (I'm sure some Mac users will start flaming here :p), it's stable (so far), it's still rather slow (compared to XP), it's powerful (you have to use it to appreciate it) and it requires high-end PC (meaning good processor, graphic card, memory, hard disk, etc.). Here is my home PC rating.
Windows Vista Base Index Score

If you are interested, Microsoft has made it public, go and help yourself to download the ISO file and install it on your own machine. Hurry, it's limited to the first 100,000 downloads. Download it from WindowsVista website.

Out of Office, Home, and Singapore

Hi,

Thank you for your visit to my blog, hendrikch.com. I am currently away and will have no access whatsoever to any computer, laptop, keyboard, mouse, let alone Internet. I will be back in two weeks time when I hope to see everyone back here again . If you really really really have to talk to me, or miss me, you can always call me, SMS me, but please pity my mobile phone bill, can? hehe... When you do your morning/noon/afternoon/evening/night prayer, and if you remember me, you can pray for my safety too. Although there were five bombings there in today's morning news, and we are closing in to five years celebration of 9th September, I'm sure I'll be alright, but I don't mind extra prayers  Take care everyone.
